Gearing up for IM Canada

Camper, ALEX SLOCUM, posed a question to the Multisports coaches:  “Have any recommendations for the gearing for IM Canada?  I have 52/38 in the front and 11 - 21 at the back?”

ROCH FREY’s response: “You will need at least a 23 rear cog but a 25 will be better.  The best overall combo would be a 53 front large chain ring and 38 small and then a 11 or 12/25 cog set in the back. Better to have that extra gear on the climbs and one more tooth on the front chain-ring.”

For fun, check out Alex’s training ride—“when I get to the mountain at the end (1500 foot climb in 3 miles)  http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2038413   I ride out to Winslow park and then do 2 loops up and down (it takes 35 minutes to do the climb and 25 minutes to go down because steep windy and total shiza road condtion!)  Sound like a good weekly ride for IM BC training?  Feedback appreciated.”  Alex
